Hotels have offered wake-up calls for decades because they work: a ringing phone is harder to sleep through or snooze than a beep you have heard a thousand times. You do not need a hotel to get one. You can schedule a phone call to your own number for any time, once or every morning.
The short version: in Remindavo, create a Custom Reminder addressed to yourself, give it a title such as "Time to get up: flight at 9:40", pick the time and choose whether it repeats daily, weekly on chosen days or monthly. At that time your phone rings and a voice reads the reminder out loud.
Be realistic: a call depends on your phone having signal and not being on silent for unknown callers. For anything you cannot afford to miss, such as an early flight, use the call together with your normal alarm, not instead of it.
Wake-Up Call vs Alarm: What Is the Difference?
| Phone alarm | Scheduled wake-up call | |
|---|---|---|
| Sound | The same tone every day, easy to tune out | An incoming call, which most people react to |
| Snooze | One tap | You have to answer or decline a call |
| Says why | A short label on the screen | Reads your reminder out loud |
| Set from another device | No, it lives on the phone | Yes, from the web or the app |
| Can someone else set it? | No | Yes, for a family member who agrees (Premium) |
An alarm is still the most reliable option when you are offline. A call is better at the moment that matters: it breaks the habit of snoozing, and hearing "Your train leaves at 7:15" is more motivating than a ringtone.
How to Set Up a Wake-Up Call
Sign in. Go to web.remindavo.com and create a free account, or install the Remindavo app on iPhone or Android.
Add a way to reach you. Verify your phone number in Settings, or install the app so the reminder rings like a call on your phone. If an app alert is not answered, Remindavo can follow up with a real phone call to your verified number.
Create a Custom Reminder. Choose yourself as the recipient and write a title you will want to hear first thing, for example "Get up: gym at 6:30".
Pick the time and repeat. One-off for a single early start, daily for every morning, or weekly on chosen days for weekdays only. Add an end date if it is just for a trip or a training plan.
Good Uses for a Scheduled Call
Early flights and trains. Set a one-off call for the morning of travel, in addition to your alarm. Shift work. A weekly call on your early-shift days only, so you do not have to change your alarms every week. Getting back on schedule. After jet lag or a holiday, a daily call at a fixed time helps reset your routine. Naps. A one-off call 30 minutes from now is harder to ignore than a nap alarm. Not just mornings. The same reminder works for "leave now for school pickup" or "start the evening routine".
Wake-Up Calls for Someone Else
If a teenager, a student living away from home or an older parent asks you to help them get up on time, you can add them as a contact. We text a 6-digit code to their phone, and they read it to you to confirm they want the calls. Then create the reminder with them as the recipient. Every call says who set it up and lets them press 9 to stop future calls. Calls to a contact are part of Premium. For daily medicine routines, see our guide to medication reminder phone calls.
Already Use a Calendar?
If your early start is already on your calendar, you do not need a separate reminder. Connect Google Calendar or Outlook and Remindavo calls you before timed events, so a 7:00 meeting or a 6:45 departure gets a call automatically. To compare options, read the best reminder apps that call you.
